Joel Merchant concentrates his practice on representing clients in general and complex litigation matters involving product liability, toxic tort, construction and labor law, as well as sports, recreation and entertainment law.

He has experience serving as local counsel for several product manufacturers in New York City asbestos litigation and various other regions in New York.

Joel works with clients to provide creative solutions to complex legal issues through diligent case preparation and effective reporting.

He manages cases through all stages of litigation, including developing defense strategy, drafting pleadings, drafting and arguing motions, defending and conducting depositions, negotiating settlements and preparing for and appearing at trial. He has substantial courtroom experience advocating for clients, including arguing discovery motions, motions in limine and examining witnesses at trial.

Prior to joining Segal McCambridge, Joel worked at a personal injury firm in Boston where he was responsible for managing cases from inception through final resolution, including representing clients at trial.

Joel earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School with a concentration in trial and appellate advocacy. He participated in the Suffolk Defenders Clinic as a student attorney and represented indigent criminal defendants throughout the greater Boston area. He also competed on the Suffolk University Law School National Trial Team and was the champion of the Interscholastic Second-Year Day/Third-Year Evening Trial Competition. Joel holds a B.A. in philosophy with a minor in religious studies from the University of Central Florida.

Outside of work, Joel enjoys comic books, reading, playing chess, traveling and spending time with his family.
