Ian Sadler concentrates his practice on insurance coverage and defense litigation and has experience managing matters in both state and federal courts. His practice includes defending general contractors in wrongful death and construction-related claims, preparing case assessments and reports, conducting and defending depositions, designating and examining expert witnesses and drafting dispositive motions.

Additionally, Ian’s practice includes products liability and class action matters, working as monitoring counsel of a large multidistrict litigation matter. 

Prior to joining Segal McCambridge, Ian practiced in Austin with a Dallas-based insurance litigation firm, where he managed employment, first-party and third-party coverage matters and represented clients in mediation. He previously served as a staff attorney for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, where he drafted more than 100 recommendation memoranda and draft opinions in appeals involving employment discrimination, civil rights, social security, criminal, habeas corpus and immigration issues. Earlier in his career, Ian worked as a research assistant focusing on insurance law topics and served as a judicial extern for a federal district court, where he conducted research, observed proceedings and supported chambers staff.

Ian earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he received Book Awards in Civil Procedure and Criminal Law and served as a Corporate Institute Practice Scholar. He holds a B.S. in political science with a minor in chemistry from the Honors College at the University of Houston.

Ian lives in Austin with his wife, Jassandra, and their dogs, Wrigley and Winnie.  Ian is an avid fan of all Houston sports, and when he’s not working, you can find him and Jassandra taking a day trip to Houston to enjoy a University of Houston basketball game. Ian also enjoys playing baseball.  He pitches and patrols the outfield for the Austin Generals in the Austin Metro Baseball League.
