Judith (“Judy”) Herman concentrates her practice on insurance defense litigation, with a particular focus on Michigan No-Fault, premises liability, dog bite and related matters. She has extensive experience handling first- and third-party No-Fault claims, managing high-volume litigation dockets and representing insurers and individuals through all stages of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, evidentiary hearings, mediation and appeals. Judy regularly negotiates complex settlements and has managed matters involving significant exposure.

In addition, Judy has significant experience representing individuals and small businesses in personal injury matters, as well as owning and operating a law practice focused on employment, medical malpractice, and litigation matters. She has served as a private arbitrator and as a court-appointed case evaluator in Michigan circuit courts and has been actively involved in professional associations and educational initiatives.

Prior to joining Segal McCambridge, Judy served in senior litigation roles with Michigan-based defense and plaintiff practices and insurance organizations, where she handled first- and third-party Michigan No-Fault matters, premises liability claims, dog bite, employment, medical malpractice, and insurance litigation on behalf of national carriers. Her experience includes supervising litigation teams, managing large caseloads and serving as lead counsel in contested matters from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal. She has also represented insurers in subrogation matters and recovery actions, achieving substantial recoveries through strategic negotiation and litigation.

In addition to practicing law, Judy also received a secondary teaching degree from Madonna University in 2006; she has taught English in public, private and alternative high schools in Oakland and Macomb Counties. She is a passionate advocate for the rights of public schools, teachers and students. Judy has volunteered in the West Bloomfield School District in many capacities ranging from PTO Officer/Board member to West Bloomfield Education Foundation Board member and participated in and co-chaired district-wide committees. She has also engaged in legislative advocacy on behalf of West Bloomfield and other Michigan public school districts.

Judy earned her J.D., with honors, from Wayne State University and holds a B.A., cum laude, from Michigan State University. She also holds a Michigan teaching certificate and completed secondary teacher certification at Madonna University.

Judy lives in the Detroit area with her husband, Bruce, and cats, Sam and Sabrina.  She mother of two amazing adult children, in a “house divided”, Eliana , a U of M graduate who is writer, and Natalie, a MSU grad, who is a high school English teacher. Judy is an avid reader, film buff, theatre-lover, traveler, bicyclist and mahjong player who most enjoys spending time with her family and friends, especially on Torch Lake.
