Roy Nelson concentrates his practice on insurance defense, premises liability, product liability, transportation and maritime matters. He represents businesses and individuals in complex civil litigation involving claims arising from slip and fall incidents, automobile accidents, negligent security and product-related claims. Roy also has experience in maritime defense matters, including claims arising under the Jones Act and issues involving maintenance and cure claims.

In addition, Roy has significant experience handling matters from pre-suit investigation through trial and resolution and regularly manages all aspects of litigation, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation and trial preparation. He also has experience evaluating liability and damages exposure, working with insurance carriers to develop defense strategies and providing recommendations throughout the litigation process.

Prior to joining Segal McCambridge, Roy practiced with national litigation firms where he focused on third-party insurance defense and maritime litigation. He also has experience representing clients in commercial litigation matters, including claims involving breach of contract, employment-related disputes and business torts. Earlier in his career, Roy served as an Assistant State Attorney, where he managed a high-volume caseload and served as first chair in multiple jury trials, gaining extensive courtroom and trial experience.

Roy earned his J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law, where he received a Litigation Certificate and was selected for a competitive trial advocacy program focused on developing advanced litigation skills. Additionally, Roy holds dual B.A. degrees in journalism and mass communication and political science from Arizona State University, where he graduated from Barrett, the Honors College.

Roy lives in Fort Lauderdale with his dog Nala and is always looking for new restaurants or events in South Florida to explore.
