In an Attorney at Law Magazine’s Legal Legacy Special Issue 2025, Segal McCambridge Shareholder Ilana B. Olman speaks about being a third-generation attorney and the lessons learned. Olman shares some of her wisdom gleaned from her mother, Randi Klayman Lazarus, and her maternal grandfather, Irving Bernard Klayman, who was also a lawyer. Olman recalls watching her mother argue before the Florida Supreme Court, including when she was an undergrad at Florida State University.
“It was evident that the Florida Supreme Court Justices were not only familiar with my mom, but they also held her in high regard and valued her experience/expertise in the field,” Olman said. “These were inspiring experiences, particularly when I was in college and making decisions about my future.”
Olman shared that during her mother’s 30 years as Bar Counsel for Florida, Olman learned from her about legal ethics. Olman said she has tried to emulate her mother’s ethical standards in her practice today.
“I also believe strongly that collegiality is a fundamental part of upholding high ethical standards,” said Olman. “It’s important to me that I maintain a respectful and collegial relationship at all times, not only with my colleagues, but with opposing counsel as well.”
