Segal McCambridge Celebrates Firm’s 30th Anniversary

Chicago, IL- Thirty years ago, in February 1986, Donald Segal, Edward McCambridge, Jeffrey Singer and William Mahoney, founded Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney, Ltd. never knowing that the firm would one day have the national footprint it has today.

Practicing together at Epton Mullin Segal & Druth and thereafter, at Lurie, Sklar & Simon, it was during a meeting in Edward McCambridge’s basement in 1986 that the four founders decided it was time to establish their own trial practice. And so it began.  Though the firm may have started with humble beginnings—a small office employing just the four founders, and Don Segal’s wife as administration--- the founders brought with them clients who were anything but humble.  Beginning their own firm with companies such as Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Travelers Insurance, Horace Mann and AIG, the four founders were immediately busy and were soon looking to expand and add additional attorneys. What started as a four man shop in Chicago has grown to a national law firm employing 165 attorneys in seven offices across the country today. In addition to the Chicago office, the firm has offices in Austin, Detroit, Jersey City, New York, Philadelphia and St. Louis.

With growth of a firm, there are obvious shifts that take place over time.  A couple things are certain, however, and still remain the same today: The four founding partners remain practicing at the firm, and  Segal McCambridge attorneys practice as trial attorneys above all else.  The firm specializes in, among many other areas, products liability, toxic tort, complex commercial litigation, employment, warranty and transportation law.  Since the firm’s founding, Segal McCambridge attorneys have tried hundreds of cases in more than 20 states across the country in both federal and state courts.  They have successfully argued a case in the Supreme Court of the United States. Segal McCambridge attorneys bring a wealth of experience in their fields and are often hired as national coordinating counsel in multi-district actions.
