Segal McCambridge Launches Public Affairs Forum Series to Highlight Civic Issues

Segal McCambridge is pleased to announce the launch of the Segal McCambridge Public Affairs Forum, a series of presentations led by prominent speakers dedicated to creating meaningful dialogue on local, national and global issues. Forum events will include prominent speakers from government, the business community and academia. Guests of the series will be invited to join the speakers for a luncheon and discussion every six to eight weeks. Segal McCambridge Chicago Shareholders Jeffrey Singer and William Mahoney will chair the forum. Through the Public Affairs Forum, contemporary issues facing the nation and particularly Chicago will be addressed. Invited attendees are expected to participate in a dialogue on the issues facing our city and country in 2017.

“The Segal McCambridge Public Affairs Forum is our way of contributing to Chicago and its people.  This is symbolic of our deep commitment to our city,” Singer says. “We add the Forum to our roster of community outreach programs of pro bono work, volunteerism and support for local, national and international organizations which work tirelessly to improve the lives of people.  We are excited about sponsoring an active dialogue by thought leaders who are experts on contemporary issues facing all Chicagoans.”

During the first quarter of the year, the Public Affairs Forum Series will include three notable presentations.

The first Forum entitled “Hate Crimes in America After the Presidential Election,” will be presented by Lonnie Nasatir, Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League, and will take place at Segal McCambridge’s Chicago office on February 3, 2017. He will discuss the more than 1,000 hate or bias-related incidents that have occurred since the November 8 election and what they will mean for Americans going forward.

The second Forum, “Fake News and its Impact on American Public Opinion,” will be presented on March 21 by Jim O’Shea, former Editor-At-Large of the Los Angeles Times and former Managing Editor of the Chicago Tribune. He is the author of “The Deal From Hell: How Moguls and Wall Street Plundered Great American Newspapers,” which details the acquisition of the Times Mirror Company in Los Angeles by Chicago-based Tribune company. He has had a front-row seat to the vast changes experienced by the American media over the last 20 years, and provides a unique perspective on the phenomena of fake news.

On April 25, Chair of the Chicago Police Board, Lori Lightfoot, will address “Police Shootings and Their Impact on Community Policing” in the Forum’s third installment. She has played a pivotal role in authoring recommendations for better training and effective policing standards for the Chicago Police Department and plans to give a candid discussion on the challenges faced by the Chicago community at large.

The Segal McCambridge Public Affairs Forum is intended to provide an important resource to Chicago. Exposure and dialogue on contemporary issues is our goal, illustrative of the contributions provided by thought leaders in our community.
