Laura Jane Kessner concentrates her practice on civil litigation. She represents clients in state and federal courts through all phases of litigation and has extensive trial experience handling complex and high-stakes matters. Laura Jane’s practice is informed by her background litigating sensitive and challenging cases and her ability to navigate litigation involving significant public and institutional interests.

In addition, Laura Jane has substantial experience managing large and diverse operations and developing and implementing technological initiatives to enhance efficiency and accountability. She has overseen complex projects involving data and artificial intelligence tools and has collaborated extensively with internal and external stakeholders to build strategic partnerships and advance organizational objectives

Prior to joining Segal McCambridge, Laura served for three decades in senior leadership and trial roles within a large California prosecutor’s office. Her experience includes prosecuting complex felony cases, including homicide and sexual assault matters, handling state and federal post-conviction proceedings and appeals and arguing before the California Court of Appeal. Laura Jane also held executive leadership positions overseeing multiple divisions, developing office-wide legal policies, supervising large teams and serving as a liaison with law enforcement agencies and other governmental bodies.

Laura Jane earned her J.D. from Loyola Law School, where she was a member of the Loyola Law Review and participated in the Professor Bill Hobbs Trial Advocacy Program. She holds a B.A. in history, with high distinction, from the University of Kentucky.

Laura Jane lives in Los Angeles with her husband and cats. She enjoys yoga, ballet, reading and learning French. She serves on the boards for three non-profit organizations.
