Shannon Hughes focuses her practice on insurance litigation, including first and third-party coverage disputes, insurance bad faith, premises liability, and property damage matters. She represents corporate and individual clients in complex, high stakes matters and works with them from early case assessment through discovery, motion practice, and resolution.

Before joining Segal McCambridge, Shannon practiced with Denver-based litigation firms representing insurance carriers and businesses in insurance coverage, bad faith, premises liability, and workers’ compensation matters. In that work, she developed a practical, detail-driven approach to case strategy with an eye toward efficient resolution. She also served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Craig R. Welling of the Colorado Court of Appeals where she received excellent writing and legal research training.

Earlier in her career, Shannon worked as a climate and energy attorney with an environmental advocacy organization, advancing regulatory challenges against coal mining on public lands. That experience sharpened her ability to synthesize complex information and communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders

Shannon earned her J.D. and LL.M. in environmental law from the University of Denver College of Law. During law school, she served as President of the Natural Resources and Environmental Law Society, competed on the Environmental Law Moot Court Team and received multiple academic honors. She holds a B.A. in media and communication studies with a minor in business from Indiana University.

Outside of work, Shannon spends time with her husband, children, and dogs, and is always on the hunt for her next outdoor adventure.
