Shinelle Simms focuses her practice on premises liability, insurance defense and intellectual property-related matters. She has experience working on civil litigation and regulatory matters involving insurance defense, cybersecurity, data privacy and compliance-related issues. Shinelle’s background includes drafting pleadings, discovery responses and litigation memoranda, as well as reviewing contracts, insurance policies and medical records in support of litigation strategy and case development.

Prior to joining Segal McCambridge, Shinelle served as a law clerk, legal intern and paralegal roles with New York-based litigation firms, corporate legal departments and nonprofit organizations. Through these positions, she gained experience assisting with motion practice, discovery review, litigation support and regulatory compliance matters. She also completed a judicial externship with the Kings County Civil Supreme Court, where she drafted bench memoranda and observed courtroom proceedings and judicial decision-making.

Shinelle earned her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, where she received the Kanter Kornblau Scholarship, Lisle Scholarship and the Samuel P. and Ellen Sporn Award, which is presented to a graduating student who made significant contributions to the law school community during their tenure as a student. She also earned a certificate in Intellectual Property, Media and Information Law. While in law school, Shinelle served as Career Development Chair for the Black Law Students Association, where she organized networking events and connected students with attorneys, alumni and potential mentors across the legal profession. She also served as Student Support Coordinator for the Student Advisor and Mentorship Program (SAMP), mentoring first-year law students throughout their transition into law school, and as Social Media Chair for the Fashion Law Society.

Shinelle earned her B.S., cum laude, in legal studies from St. John’s University, with a minor in international studies.

Outside of her practice, Shinelle remains involved in mentorship, community engagement and volunteer initiatives focused on education, professional development and access to legal resources.

Originally from the Bronx, Shinelle is a patron of the arts with interests in literature, music, fashion, visual art and creative storytelling. Her professional interests include emerging technology, artificial intelligence regulation and the intersection of law, creativity and innovation.
