Kenneth Williams Provides Data Breach Analysis at DRI’s 2021 Insurance Coverage and Practice Symposium

Detroit shareholder Kenneth Williams provided insight on the increased risk for potential data breaches and ever-evolving privacy threats as companies become more reliant upon technology at DRI’s 2021 Insurance Coverage and Practice Symposium in New York City on Friday, December 10.

Kenneth unpacked a variety of policy terms and exclusions applicable to various data breach claims and reviewed jurisdictional differences in the case In re Marriott International, Inc., v. Customer Data Sec. Breach Litig., 440 F.Supp. 3d 447; 454 (D. Md. 2020) providing specific analysis of how the issue of negligence was handled differently in Maryland, Connecticut, Florida, and Georgia in relation to the breach.

The session, titled "Coverage for Cyber Incidents," was presented by Kenneth and Monique Ferraro, an in-house claims professional with The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company in New York.
