Segal McCambridge, Committed to Increasing Diversity, Proudly Participates in the 2023-2024 Mansfield Certification

Segal McCambridge is proud to participate in the Mansfield 7.0 Certification for 2023 - 2024. This certification recognizes law firms that have demonstrated a strong dedication to recruiting, retaining, and elevating attorneys historically underrepresented in the legal practice. To earn certification, firms must consider at least 30% female lawyers, lawyers from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, lawyers with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ attorneys for several categories including permanent lawyer hiring and promoting to leadership roles.

The certification, which was first introduced in 2017 by the Diversity Lab, has quickly become highly regarded as a way for firms to demonstrate their dedication to boosting and sustaining diversity in their leadership and general hiring practices.

“I am extremely proud to be a part of a firm that prioritizes the Mansfield Certification, which fosters inclusive and equitable work environments in law firms. This is a step in the right direction for us and the legal industry as a whole,” said Jason P. Eckerly, Managing Shareholder at Segal McCambridge. “The process of earning and maintaining this certification makes us a stronger firm and sets the standard for diversity in law practice for years to come.”

Mansfield Certification has been shown to increase diversity in midsize and large law firms. The certification is awarded based on a year-long process in which the Diversity Lab evaluates a series of criteria from every firm seeking certification. Over 80 major companies, including Google, Pfizer, and Twitter, support the effort, and this year over 360+ firms have been welcomed – the largest group ever. Some criteria include considering at least 30% of historically underrepresented lawyers for various leadership positions, general hiring and promotions, and creating greater transparency around firm leadership roles with written job descriptions and transparent election or appointment guidelines. Currently, there are over 340 U.S. and Canadian law firms and more than 20 U.K. law firms with Mansfield Certification.
