Sebastian Melo-Ortiz concentrates his practice on insurance litigation, including first-party property claims, as well as product liability, toxic tort and commercial litigation matters. He defends insurers in coverage disputes involving property damage and related issues, overseeing matters from early-stage investigations through discovery, motion practice and resolution. He also has experience conducting depositions, attending court proceedings and drafting pleadings, motions and discovery-related materials.

Prior to rejoining the firm, Sebastian served as a senior attorney at a national insurance litigation firm, where he managed all aspects of first-party property disputes. His previous roles include positions at litigation-focused firms in Colorado handling commercial, personal injury, construction defect and family law matters. Earlier in his career, he was a managing attorney at a boutique law firm in Brooklyn, where he directed the defense of actions pending in New York Supreme Courts and assisted in the defense of federal civil RICO actions.

Sebastian earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 2013, where he served as Notes and Articles Editor for the Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal, Volume XXIII. He received his B.S. in public accounting from Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business.

He is fluent in Polish.
